In the United Kingdom, we are facing a crisis and the significant risk of collapse of specialist housing for homeless veterans across Britain.
Latest estimates indicate that between 100 and 400 veterans sleep rough every year and a further 3,000 to 4,000 face homelessness in cars, or derelict buildings – something no veteran or civilian should experience. Over the past few years, there has been less government funding to support veterans with housing needs such as addictions, poor mental health, or disability.
We recognise that social and affordable housing is a key part of making a success of civilian life, being able to put down roots and be part of a community. We therefore are committed to providing support for veterans and service leavers to ensure they have access to accommodation.
We Provide Supported Accommodation
We provide support to enable veterans and service leavers to sustain their accommodation and avoid becoming homeless. Also addressing the underlying issue causing the person to be at risk of homelessness could be one or more of a range of issues, including income maximisation, employment, mental or physical health, substance misuse etc. Therefore,
We work with The Veteran Charity Sector which has a rich history of providing support, and their vital role assists prevent veteran homelessness.
Referrals can come from a range of sources, including, but not limited to, the public, the homelessness sector, the veteran charity sector, Local Authorities, His Majesties Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), The Defence Transition Service (DTS), or directly from the veteran.
